Upload your M-Pesa statement and answer a few questions. We use this to decide how much you can borrow. Lenders never see your statement.

Get the statement: dial *234*5*1*1*1*6# for the last 6 months, enter your email address, and Safaricom emails the PDF and texts you its password. A 12- or 24-month statement is just as good; we read the most recent months. (In the M-PESA app: M-PESA Statements.) Upload the PDF exactly as received.

Help & complaints

Answers to the questions we get most. If yours is not here, write to us below: every complaint gets a reference and a reply within 30 days, usually much sooner.

If you can't pay on time

Pay what you can, as soon as you can, to the same Paybill with your loan ID as the account number. Every shilling comes off what you owe; you do not have to wait until you have the whole amount.

The amount you owe does not grow day by day: we do not add daily interest or daily penalties. What you owe is the figure on your agreement.

After the due date we remind you by SMS and you cannot take a new loan until this one is settled. If the loan is still unpaid 33 days after the due date your account is blocked from borrowing until it is settled and reviewed. At 90 days the lender is repaid from our guarantee reserve and we continue to recover the amount from you.

If you know you will be late, tell us before the due date using the form below (choose "A repayment I made"). It does not change what you owe, but it goes on your record and we will not chase you needlessly.

How not paying affects you

Your Niazime limit stops growing and, after 33 days, your account is blocked from borrowing. The lender who trusted you is repaid by our guarantee, but the debt remains yours.

We do not currently report defaults to a credit reference bureau. If that changes we will tell you at least 30 days before it applies to you, and any listing would follow the law: a notice first, and no listing for amounts of KES 1,000 or less.

We never contact your family, employer or contacts about your loan. We do not have their numbers: the app does not read your contacts, messages or location.

What the "effective interest rate" line means

Our price is simple: 10% for 10 days, 20% for 20 days, 30% for 30 days, plus the KES 15 M-Pesa fee, all taken before the money is sent. So a KES 1,000 loan for 10 days pays out KES 885 and you repay KES 1,000.

The law also asks us to show what that cost would be if it ran for a whole year. That is the effective annual rate, and for a 10-day loan it is a large number (over 400%) because a short loan's cost is being stretched over 365 days. You never pay that; you pay the flat figures above, once. We show it so you can compare us with anyone else honestly.

How lending works, and the guarantee

When you fund a request, the borrower's interest is split the moment the loan is sent: 35% is paid into your wallet at once (less 15% withholding tax we remit to KRA). You do not wait for repayment to earn.

When the borrower repays, your principal returns to your wallet. If the borrower does not repay, your principal is returned from Niazime's guarantee reserve 90 days after the due date. You are never asked to chase anyone, and you never learn who the borrower is beyond a masked name.

You are not responsible for what the people you refer borrow, and they are not responsible for you.

If you stop using Niazime, or if you die

Money in your wallet stays yours however long you are away. After 12 months without a sign-in or a transaction the account is dormant: we remind you by SMS, nothing is deducted, and you carry on by signing in and confirming your identity. A balance left unclaimed for the period the law sets is handed to the Unclaimed Financial Assets Authority, where you or your family can still claim it; we tell you before that happens.

If you die, your family's representative sends us the death certificate and the court's appointment. We freeze the account and pay your wallet balance, and any principal still returning from loans you funded, to your estate. A loan you had taken is owed by the estate at the same figure, with no late fee; we never pursue family members personally.

Support channels and escalation

Use the form below for anything about your account: it is logged, acknowledged by SMS with a reference, and answered within 30 days. Email info@niazime.com quoting your member ID for anything else.

If you are not satisfied with our answer you can take it to the Competition Authority of Kenya (www.cak.go.ke). To check that Niazime is a licensed digital credit provider, or to report anyone claiming to be us, the Central Bank of Kenya's channel is dcps@centralbank.go.ke.

    Your data

What you have agreed to, when, and what you can change. We never read your contacts, messages or location; the app does not ask for those permissions.

A copy of everything we hold

Your profile, consents, statements' scoring signals, questionnaire answers, loans, wallet statement, complaints, messages and the audit trail, as one file. Other members' details stay masked.

    Close my account

You can close your account once you have no loan running on either side and your wallet is empty (withdraw first). We delete your statements, answers, devices and preferences straight away. If you ever borrowed or lent, Kenyan law makes us keep your identity record for seven years; we keep nothing else, and you cannot be logged in.

To correct something we hold, or to complain about how we handle your data: dpo@niazime.com, or the Office of the Data Protection Commissioner (www.odpc.go.ke).
